Checking out a 3 hour mix from Groove Companion. 3 hours is perfect… but I’ll also except 4+  🙂

Gramatik and Proleter are two of my favorites. Kognitiff is new to me, but digging it. He’s some more funk, but I like that.

Poldoore has come up in a couple other mixes, and I think I’ll have to do some more digging. The “But I Do” track is what excited me enough to write this post. Check it out at the 54 second mark, or by itself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZvARSvqjtI. A great tool to find out who’s being sampled in a song is Who Sampled, which it looks like it calls out O.V. Wright: https://www.whosampled.com/sample/147134/Poldoore-But-I-Do-O.V.-Wright-I-Don%27t-Know-Why-(I-Love-You-Like-I-Do)/

Sometimes I get lost just doing the sample searching, or the “you might also like” trolling; but it exposes new artists to me most of the time, and that’s usually worth it.

One other gem out of this rabbit hole dive is that I learned some of the other names of derivative funk: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funk
